If you would like your child to attend our school, please see full details of our admission arrangements below. 

We would welcome you to come and look around the school and to answer any questions you may have, please contact us via email or telephone to arrange a suitable time.  We are also more than happy to talk to you on the telephone and provide you with our welcome pack.  Our website provides a host of details about classes, the school environment and what we are all about, so please take a look.

Please note - If you wish to apply to our school for a place for your child to start Reception for the first time in September and you live outside of Dorset, you will need to apply through the County Council in which you live by their specified times and dates.

Until we reach our published admission number, it is our policy to offer a place to all government funded applicants irrespective of their gender, religion, ethnicity or country of origin, disability or academic ability.

Appeals Procedure - Parents have the right of appeal to an Independent panel against the decision of the Governing Body to refuse application for a school place.  Details of the appeals procedure are sent out with all refusal letters.  The deadline for submitting appeals allows appellants at least 20 school days to prepare and submit a written appeal.  The appeal must then be heard within 40 school days for the normal round of children starting Reception class for the first time in September and within 30 days for in-year admission.  Those making an appeal will receive at east 10 schools days notice of their appeal hearing.  Where possible decision letters are sent out within 5 days of a hearing.

The government will not publish KS2 school level data for the 2021 to 2022 academic year. They have archived data from the 2018 to 2019 academic year because they recognise that the data from that year may no longer reflect current performance.

Primary Sports Premium Funding 

Vision for the Primary PE and Sport Premium

ALL pupils leave primary school physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy, active lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.

The funding has been provided to ensure impact against the following OBJECTIVE:

To achieve self-sustaining improvement in the quality of PE and sport in primary schools. It is important to emphasise that the focus of spending must lead to long lasting impact against the vision (above) that will live on well beyond the Primary PE and Sport Premium funding.

It is expected that schools will see an improvement against the following 5 key indicators:

1. The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity encouraging active and healthy lifestyles

2. The profile of PE, Sport, Health and Physical Activity continues being raised across the school

3. Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE, Sport and Healthy Living

4. Children continue to benefit from experiencing a range of sports and activities (linked to health and fitness) offered to all

5. Continued participation in competitive sport

Safeguarding

Statement on Safeguarding

At St Michael’s we all recognise our moral and statutory responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of all members of our school. We endeavour to provide a safe and welcoming environment where children are respected and valued. We are alert to the signs of abuse and neglect and follow our procedures to ensure that children receive effective support, protection and justice. The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is the Head Teacher Mr Nick Kiddle. The Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead is Mrs Natalie Townley.  The Governor with responsibility of Safeguarding is Rev Sarah Godfrey.

The procedures contained in this policy apply to all staff and governors and are consistent with those of the Dorset Safeguarding Children Board (DSCB). SEND

A Parent’s guide to the Local SEND Offer

At St Michael’s Primary School, Lyme Regis, we place support for children with special educational needs high on our priorities and ensure that very well qualified and experienced staff support these children to ensure that they make the best progress possible.

We take pride in supporting children with a wide range of needs well. About one in five children have special educational needs at different levels at some time in their school life. We identify your child’s needs as early as possible.

A special educational need may affect one or more of the following areas:

• learning
• communication
• emotional
• behavioural
• social
• sensory
• physical
• medical

Our school has policies for Inclusion, Special Educational Needs, Disability and Single Equality. We also review our Accessibility Plan each year.

These clearly state our school’s commitment to offer an inclusive learning experience for everyone. We ensure the best possible progress for all our children whatever their abilities or needs.

If a pupil has a learning difficulty or disability that requires any special educational provision, they will be placed on the SEND Code of Practice Register according to their needs. 
 

The type of special educational provision a child may receive will vary according to their needs. This is discussed with parents every step of the way.

At any time a parent has a concern, the procedure to follow is to speak to:

• Your child’s class teacher
• SENDCo/Inclusion Co-ordinator (Nick Kiddle/ Kirsty Jones)
• The Headteacher (Nick Kiddle)
• The SEND Governor (Betty Wood)
• The local Parent Partnership Service for advice.

We work closely with outside agencies to include every child with any special need or disability within our school. To provide additional support or a special programme of learning, it may be necessary to refer your child to one or more of these agencies.

The process of referral does take time, so we ask parents to:

• keep in contact with us at school – speak to your child’s class teacher or the school’s SENDCo/Inclusion Co-ordinator
• keep a diary
• tell the school if you are using other professionals, who and why, and ask them to make contact with us.

Pupil Premium

Please read the information below which gives details of our Pupil Premium Grant and how we allocate the funding.

Overview of the School

The pupil premium is additional funding given to publically funded schools in England to support the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and narrow the gap between them and their peers. Children who are eligible or have been in receipt of free school meals will be registered so that the school receives this additional funding. Schools, head teachers and teachers will decide how to use their Pupil Premium allocation, as they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for individual pupils.
