School Meals

We are committed to providing a balanced menu for the children at St. Michael's using ingredients sourced locally wherever possible.  Our meals are freshly made in the school kitchen.  If your child has an allergy or requires a special diet please contact the school office to discuss your child's requirements.

Meals should be ordered 7 days in advance and paid for by BACs.  Menus are sent home at the end of every term to ensure orders are placed in time for the new term. Pupils can bring their own packed lunches if they are not choosing a school meal on a particular day.

We have a no nut policy in our school.

Snacks

At snack time we provide different kinds of fruit for children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 as part of a National Scheme.  Your child will be asked to try the fruit but we will not expect them to eat it if they really dislike anything.  If you wish to send your child in with their own fruit then please ensure that it is in a named food bag and it can be kept in their bag.

You will need to provide fruit/healthy snack for children in Year 3-6 should they wish.

Milk will be offered to children under the age of 5 as part of a National Scheme.  You can order and pay for milk for your child after their 5th birthday from Cool Milk - contact the school office for more information.

Universal Infant Free School Meals

From September 2014 all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to a free school meal under the Government's Universal Infant Free School Meal scheme.

Free School Meals/Pupil Premium

We encourage all parents who are eligible for the following benefits to apply for Free School Meals even if they are in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2. This is because the school receives extra income, currently £1380 per year (2022-23) and £1455 per year (2023-24), which we use to provide additional support for your child. Please contact the school if you wish to apply for free school meals or use the link below to the Dorset Council website where you can make an application.  You will usually be given an immediate decision and the school will be notified on your behalf.

Your child may be able to get free school meals if you get any of the following:

  • Income Support
  • income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • the guaranteed element of Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit - if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)
