SIAMS: What is a SIAMS Inspection?

Church of England schools take part in a SIAMS inspection (Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools). This inspection looks at how well the school’s Christian vision—developed and supported by leaders at all levels—helps both pupils and adults to flourish in all areas of life.

The inspection is guided by one key question:

"How effective is the school’s distinctive Christian vision in enabling pupils and adults to flourish?"

To explore this, inspectors look at seven key areas:

Vision and Leadership: How the school’s Christian vision shapes its direction and decisions.

Wisdom, Knowledge, and Skills: How learning helps pupils grow academically and personally.

Character Development: Encouraging hope, ambition, and standing up for what’s right.

Community and Living Well Together: Building a caring and respectful school community.

Dignity and Respect: Ensuring everyone is valued and treated fairly.

Impact of Collective Worship: How worship supports spiritual growth and reflection.

Effectiveness of Religious Education: The quality and impact of RE teaching.

The goal of SIAMS is to support and improve Church school education by focusing on how the school’s Christian vision positively affects the lives, learning, and development of everyone in the school community.
